This shoulder bag with a clasp closure can hold a smartphone and small accessories.
The shoulder strap, made of cowhide leather, can be adjusted to six different lengths and can also be removed.
The main body is made of water-resistant paper yarn (shifu), and a small pocket is attached inside for ease of use.
The cuff is hand painted on all sides with pigment for design and durability.
At textiletells, we call this hand painted cuff design "Hakama".
［About natural paper yarn fiber]
This fiber is made from natural Japanese paper and is characterized by its high durability with little pilling.
It has excellent water resistance, high water absorbency, and quick-drying properties, and can withstand washing to such an extent that is hard to believe that it is a paper-based material.
It is a unique material that is extremely lightweight and has the feel of paper. It is woven with great care by craftsmen in Kyoto's town workshops.
textiletells uses three types of Japanese paper.
The paper yarn fiber is knitted on an old raschel knitting machine, acquired in the Meiji Era (1868-1912) by the grandfather of the current president of the Kyoto-based workshop.
Since the machine is old, there are fewer of them in operation and fewer craftsmen available to operate them.
There is a limited number of craftsmen who can operate these machines, and the machines themselves are still being made by a limited number of craftsmen, who have modified the machines and devised new ways to make them.
The designer himself hand paints the graphics on each product, emphasising the texture and unevenness.
Since each piece is hand painted, the paint will vary from piece to piece.
