1616 / arita japan

Japan’s first ceramic was made in Arita, Saga Prefecture in 1616.

Thus, “1616/arita japan” was named after this history.

In 2012, a new ceramics brand was created that connects stories through dialogue with the history of Arita up until today, with Teruhiro Yanagihara, a designer as the creative director to work along with people of Arita that are wealthy in experiences and skills.

During the brand’s first exhibition in Milano Salone in 2012, they received high praises from design professionals all around the world.
Today, 1616/arita japan is active in more than 18 countries, primarily in Europe.In addition, a new designer is invited for each series to bring in a new interpretation to Japanese’s tradition and ceramics making that tie in to the future.
